Our Story
Since our founding, the guiding principle of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home has been the commitment to treating each family who comes to us as our own. With sincerity, pride, and dedication, we are committed to this time-honored tradition.
Our family opened the doors of the funeral home years ago. Our reputation for providing the highest quality of service grew, and today we are privileged to serve hundreds of area families each year. By having the only on-site crematory in Athens-Clarke County, Lord and Stephens Funeral Home provides continuity of care for families’ loved ones.
In 1997, we acquired Athens Memory Gardens, a 36-acre perpetual care cemetery located on the eastside of Athens. Within the cemetery, we offer several traditional burial sections specifically for flat bronze markers or upright granite monuments, as well as a mausoleum for entombment, cremation niches, and a cremation scattering garden.
In 2004, we acquired Oconee Memorial Park, a perpetual care cemetery located in the bustling Oconee County. The cemetery is bordered on one side with a historic pecan grove, and we are currently expanding the cemetery to offer traditional burial sections with flat bronze markers or upright granite monuments, as well as cremation options - both a columbarium for cremation urns and cremation scattering garden.
In recent years, we’ve gathered together a staff of highly-qualified and deeply caring individuals to assist us in continuing the funeral home’s mission of providing excellence in service to families in their time of need.
