David William Peterson

David William Peterson, also known as “Coach Dave”, 78, of Athens, Georgia passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9th, 2021. He was the son of the late William and Ruth Peterson of Ocala, Florida. Coach Dave was a youth director of YMCA and a retired educator from Oglethorpe County Primary School and was well known for coaching softball, refereeing, and long-distance running. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dusty Peterson and his brother, Greg (Darby) Peterson of Dunwoody. Dave is also survived by his three sons; Brian (Susan) of Hull, Duane (Katharine) of Bishop, and Dennis (Amy) of Watkinsville, as well as 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and is preceded in death by 2 grandchildren. Dave was a long time member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Lord & Stephens West is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be Monday, December 13th from 11 a.m. until Noon followed by a private grave-side service. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation could be made to the youth programs at the YMCA.
