Charles "Bud" E. Marcil, Jr.

June 15, 1947 — June 18, 2023

Athens, Georgia

Charles “Bud” E. Marcil, Jr., surrounded by his family in Athens, GA, took his last earthly breath and was welcomed by Jesus into Heaven on June 18, 2023.  He had bravely battled cancer for many years.

Bud was born in Revere, MA on June 15, 1947, to Charles and Doris Marcil. His mother worked and saved, and Bud began guitar lessons at the age of 10. In 1965, Bud graduated from Medford High School and enrolled in classes at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1966 and served as a Medic until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1972.

Bud married Linda Visbal in 1969, and they welcomed their daughters, Yvette, in 1971, and Stephanie, in 1976. A second marriage brought his third daughter, Lindsay, in 1988.

His love for music continued as he played guitar for the bands “The Ticket” and “Front Row.” In 1991, Bud entered the sales force, eventually becoming a Sales Manager for Terminix and Unifirst. He loved to talk and was great at making new friends, where he thrived in building teams and achieving goals. In 2004, he moved to Athens, GA and worked as a Sales Manager for AmeriPride. During these years, he became a grandfather and was affectionately called “Papa Bud.”

Bud attended Athens Church and served on the guest services team as a greeter and an usher. He loved his volunteer role with the church and had many opportunities to pour into others. With his love for teaching guitar still alive and well, he retired from the corporate world and in 2008, launched Athens Guitar Studio, and taught private lessons right up until March of this year.

Bud loved his daughters and grandchildren, and devoted his time attending cheer competitions, piano recitals, golf tournaments, soccer games, baseball games, theater performances, and drum concerts through the years.

Bud is survived by his daughters, Yvette Marcil Jackson (Mike), Stephanie Marcil Meeker (David), and Lindsay Marcil Womack (Scott), and nine grandchildren: Aaron, Sydney and Ryan Jackson; John, Ansley, Tori, Jonathan, and Benjamin Meeker; and Chloe Womack. He is also survived by siblings Shirley Abbott, Charlene Senior (John), and Paul Marcil (Janet); former spouse, mother of Yvette and Stephanie, Linda Calvert (Jim), and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
