Arthur Wayne Roberts

Arthur Wayne Roberts, age 78, died in his home after a short illness on Sunday, November 14, 2021, in Athens, Georgia.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Nancy; son Curt Roberts and wife Lisa of Fishers, Indiana; daughter, Louri Caldwell of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Ayslinn Roberts, Mason Caldwell, Bryneth Roberts, Colin Caldwell and Ellen Roberts; brother, Vaughn Roberts of Port St. Joe, Florida; sister, Judy Dupree of Wake Forest, NC; many cousins; numerous family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Joy Ellen Roberts and his parents, Curtis and Doris Roberts.

Wayne was born on September 17th in Sylvester, Georgia. He entered the US Navy at the age of 17. After the Navy, he graduated from Michigan State University with a master’s in microbiology. He became a diagnostician of viruses in animals and worked at the diagnostic lab at Michigan State. He continued this career at the University of Kentucky and retired from the University of Georgia.

Wayne Was a great family man and a loving father and grandfather. He had wonderful friends, loved the Braves, coaching baseball and always enjoyed good company. He loved his grandchildren, making up nursery rhymes, Thanksgiving and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens with a celebration of his life to follow directly after. His nephew, Curtis Dupree will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wayne’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Habitat for Humanity.
