Athens - Wilma M. SappÈ, 73, of Athens, greatly beloved by family and friends, died at home Monday, June 13, 2006. Mrs. SappÈ was a born in Micaville, NC and has lived in Athens since 1979.
Surviving Mrs. SappÈ are her devoted husband, John Hoyt SappÈ, of Athens; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynette SappÈ-Watkins and William W. Watkins III; and two grandsons, Sean Hoyt Watkins and Evan Albert Watkins, all of Vienna, VA. She is also survived by her sisters, Juanita Russell of Port St. Lucie, FL; Betty Cooper and her husband Wayne of Inverness FL; her brother, Marshall McMahan and his wife Flossie, of Cornelia, GA; and a sister-in-law, Harriett Bedenbaugh of Houston, TX; and many other family and friends who loved her dearly.
Mrs. SappÈ was the daughter of the late Harrison and Rosie McMahan of Micaville, NC and is preceded in death by a sister, Jewel McMahan and brothers, John McMahan and Alvis McMahan.
While living in Miami, FL and working as a medical secretary, she met and married John Hoyt SappÈ, then on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. As Air Force wife, she supported her husband on assignments across the U.S., in Puerto Rico and in overseas locations including Bitburg, Germany, where she enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. She was a loving spouse and mother, an accomplished seamstress, and an outstanding homemaker. She enjoyed walking, cooking and crafts. She was also a member of the Seedling Garden Club in Cedar Creek.
The family will accept visitors at Noon, Saturday, June 17 at Lord & Stephens-East Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Rd, Athens. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., in the Lord & Stephens Chapel.
