Willis Harvel Welborn, 85, of Comer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Born in Banks County, he was a son of the late Ernest Avery Welborn and Estelle Reid Welborn. Willis graduated from Banks County High School in 1957. Willis was on his school board and was a member of the Jaycees. Following his graduation, he attended barber school and moved from Homer to Comer to open his own barbershop where his business flourished for more than 15 years. Willis saw the need for a local meat processor so he closed his barbershop and opened Welborn’s Meat Processing (currently known as Greg’s Meat Processing) which he operated for more than 45 years. In addition to being a hard worker, Willis was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Carleen Parson Welborn; two children, Jeffery Welborn and Tammy Welborn; one sister, Janice Welborn Pritchett; one granddaughter, Janna Minyard (Kyle) and one great-grandson, Levi.
