Comer - Willis Comer Strickland, 92, husband of Mary Hansford Strickland, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Spring Valley Health Care Center, Elberton, GA.
Funeral services will be held 10AM, Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Comer United Methodist Church with Revs. Chris Wagoner and Mike McLemore officiating. Burial will be held at Comer Cemetery.
Born in Comer, GA, he was the son of the late Howard and Ida Strickland. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Julian Strickland. His early working years were spent with Eastern Air Lines and he enjoyed relating stories of encounters with Eastern's president, Eddie Rickenbacker, a World War I fighter pilot ace.
Willis retired from Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company after 28 years of service. He was a dedicated Mason and a member of Shannon Lodge # 404 in Comer for more than 50 years. During that time, it was his pleasure to serve in all of the various offices of the lodge.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons: Bill Strickland (Michele) of Athens, John Strickland (Joanne) of Pinon Hills, CA, five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all of his family.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2007 from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comer United Methodist Church.
