Willie Mae Lowe, beloved member of the Winterville community for over 50 years, has died at the age of 98.
She was born Willie Mae Rich in Madison County, Georgia on July 23, 1915, the third of five children of Bunyan Hill and Vessie Lee Rich. Brothers were Luke, Jim and Onnie. Her one sister was Grace Stark.
Willie Mae was married to Harrison Newton Manley with whom she had five children: Lois Johnson, J. D. Manley, Louise Ramsey, Stewart Manley and Frank Manley. She was married for 33 years, until his death, to William Ray (Billy) Lowe of Winterville.
She has 9 grandchildren: Carol Kitlinski, Rita Silvey, Jeff Manley, Jan Hatten, Jason Manley, Julie Manley, Lisa Manley, Byron Manley and Barbara Ann Morgan, Great grandchildren are Bonnie Pierce, Melody Christie, Mae Manley, Abigail Manley, Abel Manley, Alexandria Hatten, Victoria Hatten, Harper Manley and Cole Manley. She has two great-great grandchildren Alana and Nathan Pierce.
Willie Mae was the consummate care giver and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook who made everyone welcome in her home, even on short notice. She learned to make biscuits from her grandmother, and they were without equal. She had an amazing work ethic and a strength of will and determination that everyone recognized and admired. Her loving heart and strong spirit were gifts from God that touched the lives of her family and all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church of Winterville with Dr. Phillip G. Wages officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 PM. Interment will follow at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Danielsville.
