Athens - Willie Carrier, 71, formerly of Rome, NY, died Friday, April 14, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Rome, NY, he was the son of the late Chester and Elizabeth Morris Carrier. He was inducted into the Rome, NY Sports Hall of Fame and was a life member of the Elk's Club # 96 in Rome, NY. While in Rome he was the Santa Claus for a number of years and worked every morning in preparing the Kennedy Hockey Arena for practices. He retired from Revere Copper & Brass. He served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church., Athens, GA.
Survivors include his dear friend, Cathy Grogan of Athens, GA, daughter and son in law, Jacki and Ken Harmon of Commerce, GA. son, Robert "Bob" Michael Carrier of Rome, NY, brother, Robert M. Carrier of Rome, NY, and grandchildren; Zach and Ally Harmon.
Funeral services will be held 6PM, Monday, April 17, 2006 at Lord & Stephens West Chapel, with Rev. A. B. Sawyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 at the funeral home Monday evening. Burial will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Athens YMCA Roller Hockey Program.
