William Tippett Almond, 90, of Athens, passed away on August 24, 2023. Born on August 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Carie Mercer Almond and Bessie Chandler Almond.
Tipp was a veteran of the United States Army where he completed basic training in Columbus, Georgia and spent the remainder of his time at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He had a variety of careers including an inspector at General Times, traveled as a salesman for Liggett Myers Tobacco, sold jewelry for Atlanta Diamond Distributors and finally purchased Complete Systems Alarm Company where he retired. He was a huge UGA Football fan and watched their games every Saturday, sometimes following it up with replays, followed by more replays.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Chandler Mercer Almond, Mary Louise Almond Copeland, Ralph Clinton Almond.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Almond; nephews, Carey Mercer Almond (Yvonne), Michael Almond (Barbara), Stephen Almond (Lisa), Kevin Almond (Leslie), Clinton Almond (Sara), David Shoemaker (Julie).
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Forest Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Clay Crews officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00PM.
