Lincolnton,GA - William Roy "Bill" Welch, 78, of Lincolnton, Ga., formerly of Athens, GA. died June 10, 2010 at his residence.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Ga. Mr. Welch was born April 13, 1932 to the late John and Velma Compton Welch. He retired from the United States Navy as Master Chief serving for 30 years. He also retired from the University of Georgia where he worked in the Physical Plant after 20 years. But most will remember his service stations where he performed mechanical repairs in and around Athens. In 1999 he and his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Shirley Flanagan Welch retired to Lincoln County, Ga. Mr. Welch was a member of Young Harris United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday June 13, 2010 at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Oglethorpe Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Stephens, Ga. The family will receive friends Saturday June 12, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife Shirley J. Welch, his children, Ramona (Don) Schimmel, Wanda (Glenn) Nix, Aimee Pulliam, Rebecca (Waymon) Fields, William (Wanda) Welch Jr., Margaret (Kenneth) Darley, Susan (Hal) Henning, and John (Marsha) Welch. Sisters Virginia Scott and Shirley Alewin, 28 Grandchildren and 12 great Grandchildren. And a number of other relatives.
