It is with great sadness that the family of William Larry Webb announces his passing on Sunday, July 30, 2017. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Athens First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens West on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Larry was born in Savannah, Georgia on July 24, 1946 in Telfair Hospital. He was the third son of Ernest William and Annie Pearl Daughtry Webb. One brother died at birth and his second brother, Ernest Walter Webb preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife JoAnn Elizabeth Treadwell Webb, sons Dr. Whitney (Kery) Webb MD, Athens, Georgia, Weston (Sheri) Webb, Canton, Georgia and a daughter Courtney (Brad) Guest of Bishop, Georgia. He and JoAnn have 10 grandchildren. They are William, Michael, Madeline, Andrew, Wade, Mathew, Mary Frances, Cody, Amelia and Sarah.
Larry received his Bachelors of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He has been a strong supporter of the Terry College of Business. Larry was a graduate of Metter High School, Metter, Georgia.
Larry was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Athens Regional Health Services and President of Health Plan Select of Athens Georgia. He has served as Chief Financial Officer of Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, Georgia and South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, Georgia. Larry was a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association since 1973, and received his Fellowship in 1978. He was awarded the Fullmer, Reeves, and Muncie awards and received the Medal of Honor. Larry was a consultant from 1969 to 1971, and in 1971 he joined Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. In 1973 he became the Chief Financial Officer of South Georgia Medical Center. He served as Director of Financial Control for the Griffin Corporation. Larry served as the Secretary and Treasurer of The Hospital Authority of Clarke County Georgia, Regional FirstCare, Inc ., Athens Regional Physician Services, Inc., Athens Area Health Plan Select, Inc., Athens Regional Health Services, Inc., Athens Regional Health Ventures, Athens Regional Foundation and Athens Regional Health Resources. Larry was a Charter member of North Valdosta Rotary Club in Valdosta Georgia and was a member for ten years serving on the board of directors, Secretary and Treasurer. He later moved and joined the Athens Rotary Club of Athens, Georgia and became a Paul Harris Fellow, and a Rotary Benefactor. Larry helped form the Athens Regional Medical Center Foundation and became one of the initial members of the Cornerstone Society. He formed the South Georgia Medical Center Foundation in Valdosta, Georgia. He has served on the Boards of Directors of Georgia 1st System of Healthcare, Health Southeast, Inc. the Phoenix PCIP company, and Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Larry has been a member of Athens First United Methodist Church in Athens, Georgia and has served on its finance Committee and Board of Trustees. Larry has been a member of the Valdosta Touchdown Club, The Clarke Central Touchdown Club, and is a member of the Athens Touchdown Club. Larry served as a coach in the YMCA and Boys Club football programs. He has supported the Boy Scouts, United Way, Cancer Society, American Heart Association, March of Dimes, and various conservative causes. Larry is an Emeritus member of the UGA Terry College of Business Alumni Association and a Founder and Emeritus Member of the Georgia CFO Networking Group.
Larry will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
