William Edgar (bill) Strickland

Watkinsville, GA - William Edgar (Bill) Strickland, 81, of Watkinsville, GA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. He was born in Hapeville, GA to the late William and Willie Strickland. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He retired from the State of Georgia where he served as State Revenue Commissioner and on numerous state boards. He also served on the board of the former South Fulton Hospital in Hapeville. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Athens, GA.
Mr. Strickland is survived by his beloved wife of almost 59 years, Jean C. Strickland, Watkinsville; daughter, Kay Strickland Baugher (Rob), Homewood, AL; son, William Perry (Bud) Strickland, St. Simons Island, GA; daughter Carol Ann Strickland Hurd (Bubba), Marietta, GA; three grandchildren, Robert Woodard (Woody) Baugher, III (Dana), Hannah Baugher Armstrong (Michael), and Richard Strickland Hurd; and three great grandchildren, Arden and Esther Baugher and Kai Armstrong.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on July 17, 2009 at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Meredith and Rev. David Staton officiating.
