William "Mike" Michael Smith

William Michael "Mike" Smith, 56, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Born in Athens, he was the son of the late Horace Gene Smith and Valrie Pitts Smith.
Mike served his community for 38 years in law enforcement, 36 of those with the Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Office and 12 years as Sheriff. He was a member of Millstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Brockett Smith of Carlton; son: Jonathan Hemphill of Lawrenceville, GA; niece: Jessica Smith (Thomas) Gorman and close family friends: Jonathon and Shalon Huff.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. David Burt officiating. Entombment will be following at Athens Memory Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathon Huff, Don Waldroup, Taylor Arrendale, Michael Mathews, Brian Drake, Andrew Brooks, Steve Jones, Fletcher Mattox, David Wortham, Ralph Maxwell, Jesse Elder, Billy Pittard, Glen Hill, Carlos Rodriguez-Feo, Todd Pullium and Tommy Wheless.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 12 prior to the service.
