William "Bill" L. Shupe, age 82, of Athens, passed away July 10, 2012.
A native of Wann, Neb., he was the son of the late Irwin and Uvon Shupe. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force, was a mechanical engineer and a graduate of the University of Texas, worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry, and finished his career with the USDA at the Russell Research Center. After retirement, he obtained his master's degree from the University of Georgia.
Bill was active at Tuckston United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was warm and was well-loved by his family and friends. He had an avid interest in nature, hiking, and astronomy.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Fleming Shupe; sister, Gwen Shupe, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sons, Daniel Shupe, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Gerald West Shupe, of Seguin, Texas; daughters, Constance Uvon Silva, of Santa Cruz, Calif., Kathie Minnon, of Savannah, and Karen Lewis, of Gainesville; six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, at Tuckston United Methodist Church, with Dr. James B. Mooneyhan officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church. Flowers will be accepted.
