William Carroll 'Mac' McRee

Mac was born near Watkinsville, GA in the McRee family home on the corner of McRees Gin and Flat Rock Roads to Harriett Marshall McRee and John Osborn McRee. Mac was the youngest child and at 93 the oldest living McRee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Nell Martin McRee, his mother and father, brothers Parks, Jacob, John Osborn, Jr. (J.O.), 1/2 brother Harvey and sisters Hazel and Hannah and 1/2 sisters Ina, Beulah, Hallie and Ruby.
Mac graduated from Oconee County High School in 1939; graduated Athens Business School and ICS Business School with a concentration in accounting. Shortly after he graduated Athens Business College he started his career with the Georgia Power Company in Gainesville, GA and met his future wife Nell. He worked in Gainesville until he signed up to serve his country.
During WWII Mac served in the Army Air Force, 4th Fighter Squadron, Mighty 8th Air Force as First Sargent of the Military Police Company stationed near London, England. After basic training he graduated from FBI investigator training in Battle Creek, MI under FBI Special Agent In Charge Melvin Purvis.
Following WWII Mac returned to the Georgia Power Company in Athens, GA. He held progressively more responsible positions as Accountant, Auditor and Division Auditor prior to his retirement after 44 years of service.
Mac was an avid golfer; he was very proud of scoring a Hole in One several years ago and continued to play golf into his late 80's. He also loved the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, having watched the Braves game earlier the evening he passed away.
During retirement Mac and Nell traveled extensively. He frequently said he had been 'everywhere except the South Pole' !
Mac is survived by daughter Mary Nell McRee-Hamilton and husband Phillips D. Hamilton II, MD of Watkinsville, GA , son John M. McRee of Huntington Beach, CA and a number of nieces and nephews.
