Bill McElhannon, 65, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Selma, AL, he was the son of the late Dr. Fayette Monroe McElhannon and Daisy Howell McElhannon. He was a communicant of UGA Catholic Center. Bill had his Doctorate in Horticulture as well as a Law Degree and Philosophy Degree. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Ann McElhannon, children and their spouses: Philip and Martha McElhannon of Athens, Anna and Brian Santos of Athens, Benjamin and Lauren McElhannon of Athens, Catherine and Robert Porterfield of Athens, Charles and Michelle McElhannon of Carey, NC, brothers and sisters, Dr. Fayette McElhannon, Jr. of Athens, Margaret Olson of Darien, Julia McElhannon of Douglasville, Dr. Alice Quinif of Thompsonville, Anna Rice of Bowman, John McElhannon of Athens, Dr. Rembert McElhannon of Athens, Grace Whelan of Savannah, eight grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10AM, Monday, March 15, 2010 at the UGA Catholic Center with Father Thomas F. Vigliotta, Celebrant. Graveside services will be held 12:00, Monday, March 15, 2010 at the McElhannon Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. A Rosary service will be said, Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 7PM at the UGA Catholic Center.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the UGA Catholic Center.
