William Bibb "Bill" Mattox, 87, husband of Wilma Brooks Mattox, died Sunday, June 25, 2017. A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late John A. Mattox and Rossie Lovinggood Mattox. Bill served in the US Army and retired as SFC after 21 years. He also had worked as an investigator for the Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Department and the Crawford Water Works as Director of Operations. He was a member of Crawford Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his wife include three children: Tammy Mattox (Ray) Moore of Crawfordville, GA, Ryan (Yvette) Mattox of Bethlehem, GA and Patty Mattox (Bill) Graham of Noblesville, IN; sister: Lessie Scott of Winterville; grandchildren: Sara Mattox Cauley, Mallory Paradise McElhannon, Haley Graham, Heather Helmreich, Colby Moore, Peter Helmreich, Hannah Moore and Will Graham and four great grandchildren: Ava Cauley, Alayna McElhannon, Mattox Cauley and Scarlett McElhannon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Mike Peavy officiating. Interment will follow at Crawford Cemetery.
