William Carl Mansberger, 87, of Athens, died June 11, 2015.
Born in Laurel, Florida, he was the son of the late Carl William and Elma Oates Mansberger, widower of Dorothy Ann Mansberger and preceded in death by his son, Jonathan James Mansberger.
A U.S. Navy veteran (1943-1947), Mr. Mansberger served in the Pacific aboard the USS Constellation as a Hospital Corpsman. Following his military service, he became a nurse anesthetist and worked with Athens General Hospital from 1964-1973. He and his family then moved to Hickory, NC where he worked with Catawba Memorial Hosptial for 28 years before moving back to Athens. Mr. Mansberger generously volunteered his time to the community including disaster relief with the Baptist Brotherhood Association, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Boy Scouts. In addition, he taught bible study at Denney Towers and worked as a Medical Missionary in Haiti several times. Mr. Mansberger was a former member of Friendship Christian Church and current member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Michael Mansberger (Dorann) of Statham, David Mansberger (Angel) of Yokota Air Base, Japan and Jennifer Grabiak (Jeff) of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Kellie Ann Raftery (Matt), Matthew William Grabiak, Jessica Ann Grabiak, Jonathan David Mansberger and Jacob William Mansberger.
Memorial services will be Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST. Committal services will be Monday at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or USO.
