Atlanta, GA - He lived his life with amazing courage and conviction. William Scott King, truly a man for all seasons, died on July 14, 2011 at the age of 33.
Born in Birmingham, AL, Scott King lived briefly in Waycross, GA, Griffin, GA and Anniston, AL. He spent most of his growing up years, however, in Athens, GA. Scott graduated from Cedar Shoals High School in 1996 as Salutatorian of the senior class. Scott attended the University of Georgia a couple of years, then transferred to Georgia Tech where he graduated with High Honors and a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering in June 2002. In January 2004 Scott began his career as a Mechanical Engineer with Newcomb and Boyd Consultants and Engineers in Atlanta where he was employed until his death. While at Newcomb and Boyd, Scott achieved the status of Associate and also met the rigorous requirements in 2009 for recognition on the National Register as Professional Engineer or PE.
Among Scott's professional accomplishments while at Newcomb and Boyd are several new buildings constructed at Emory University in Atlanta for which he did engineering design work. In 2006, he received the U. S. Green Building Council's designation as a LEED Accredited Professional for his successful implementation of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system. Scott performed extensive LEED engineering design work for the construction of Emory University's Few and Evans Residence Halls. These halls were designed with unique rainwater and condensation-reclamation systems that will provide water to flush all toilets.
Scott was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hike in the mountains, canoe in Georgia's rivers and was a veteran of countless camping trips. His favorite camping destination was Yosemite National Park.
