William Alton Edwards, 78, of Watkinsville passed away on November 24, 2016. Born and raised in Washington, DC, he became Director of Recreation for Rockville, MD before moving to Athens. He retired as Associate Director of the State 4-H Extension Service. He spearheaded the formation of Clover & Company musical organization that celebrates 36 years in December. He was instrumental in several other 4-H programs that are still vital today. He was known in the 4-H as "Mr. Bill, the small guy with the big ideas".
Living family is his wife of 53 years, Patricia; sons James Edwards (Renee Hadley) and Andrew Edwards (Mary); sisters Jean Haywood (Jerry), Pat Powell (Don), Frances McFadden, and Angela Melvin. He also has many nieces and nephews.
Following a private burial there will be a celebration of "Mr. Bill's" life at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 29th at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, 1609 S Milledge Ave, Athens, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Bill Edwards to the Georgia 4-H Foundation, 306 Hoke Smith Annex, Athens, Ga 30602.
