William O. Dawkins, 91, passed away January 30, 2017.

A native of Lincolnton, GA, he was a son of the late Ozzie Adel and Lalla Norman Dawkins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. "Sting" Dawkins.

Mr. Dawkins was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star for his service. He retired from Georgia Power after twenty-five years of service. In 1985 he became Postmaster of Maxeys, GA and continued to hold that position until today. Mr. Dawkins was also an active member of Maxeys Christian Church for many years and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Maxeys Christian Church with Rev. Len Bernnat and Mr. Bill Winkle officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Maxeys.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Janet Jones Dawkins; son, Bill (Linda) Dawkins of Jasper; daughter, Jan (Jim) Hamala of Watkinsville; three sisters, Helen Grindstaff, Jeanette Hemphill, Libba (Tommy) Cunningham; two brothers, Lewis Dawkins and Sammy (Vicki) Dawkins; five grandchildren, Angie Dawkins, Cody (Sarah) Dawkins, Matt (Jessica) Dawkins, Colt (Angelina) Prattes, Taylor Hamala; four great grandchildren, Jaxson Smith, Savannah Smith, Nathan Dawkins, Declan Dawkins and many nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
