William Ernest Cheatham, III

William “Sandy” Ernest Cheatham III, 74, of Athens, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025. He was born on July 28, 1950, in Anderson, South Carolina, to the late William Ernest Cheatham Jr. and Kathryn Watkins Cheatham.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, William dedicated his life to hard work, family, and his passions. He retired from NuCraft Dental Arts after many years of service, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. A longtime resident of Athens, he was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and could always be found cheering them on every Saturday in the fall.

Above all, William was a devoted father to William Cheatham IV, Melissa Rudolf and Nicky Kirkpatrick. He was a loving grandfather to Jocelyn, Miles, Carter, Madisson, CJ, Jasey, Marlie, Taylin, Brennen, Brogan and Rylan. He was a loving brother to his sisters, Barbara and Kathie. He was preceded in death by his brother David. He cherished time spent with his family and will be remembered for his warmth, dedication, and unwavering love for those closest to him.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd, Watkinsville, GA 30677.

William will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
