William A. "Billy" Bryant, Sr., 88, died Friday, May 22, 2015. Born in Rayle, GA, he was the son of the late Fred Gilbert Bryant and Ophelia Adkins Bryant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Maxwell Bryant and son, William A. "Bill" Bryant, Jr. Mr. Bryant served in the US Navy during WWII and retired from the Lexington Post Office as Postmaster after 30 years. He served several years as the Chairman of the Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners; was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church; the Oglethorpe County Rotary Club and the UGA Touchdown Club. Survivors include his children: Rita (George) Harwood of Athens, Carolyn (John) Faz of Crawford; grandchildren: Amanda Parker, Margaret Faz, Charlie Martz, Wheeler Bryant, Morgan Robinson and Emily Faz; great grandchildren: Will Perry, Kit Perry, Georgia Parker and Caroline Martz. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 4PM at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Mask and Rev. Dan Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the DAR, Kettle Creek Chapter-Veteran Fund or Salem Baptist Church.
