Wiley Patton Carter, 89, of Winterville, died November 8, 2005.
Born in Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late William Warren and Annie Holmes Carter. Mr. Carter was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, having served in India. He was retired Traffic Manager with Chicopee Mills (Johnson and Johnson) after 23 years of service. Mr. Carter was a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge. He was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Clerk.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 11, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Richard McFall officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Corinth Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary J. Carter; 2 sons, Russell (Carolyn) Carter of Madison and Richard (Pricilla) Carter of Winterville; 5 grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Carter, Kelli Carter (Andy) Allred, Christopher Carter, Matthew Carter and Hannah Carter; great granddaughter, Maricarter Grace Allred and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the church Friday, from 2:00 PM until service time.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church Building Fund.
