Bogart - Wilbur "Doc" Massey, 86, died Tuesday, March 02, 2010, at Magnolia Estates, Bogart, GA.
A native of Taylor County, he was the son of the late Byron and Claudia Brooks Massey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Wintzel Massey and great-grandson, Landon Wiggins. Doc served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS New York at the Battle of Normandy on D-Day. He retired from Johnson & Johnson and served as Minister of Music at Southside Baptist Church as well as Second Baptist Church, both in Griffin, GA. He was a member of Manley Memorial Baptist Church, Eatonton, GA.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Massey of Eatonton; children: Michael "Van" E. Massey of Lexington, KY, Cathy Murphey of Butler, AL, Lynn Hendren of Athens; grandchildren: Michael Massey, Nathan Massey, Heather Peisel, Courtney Barnes, Lindsey Wiggins, Stephanie Hendren and David Bell, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 11AM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel, Bogart, GA with Dr. Carlisle Driggers officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 at Eastview Cemetery, Zebulon, GA, Thursday, March 4, 2010. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Manley Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, or the American Alzheimer's Association.
