Watkinsville - Wesley W. "Wash" McKinnon, 77, of Watkinsville, died Sunday, July 5, 2009. Born on September 3, 1931, in Athens, Georgia to Walter E. and Lilly C. McKinnon. He retired from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department as Captain; he also made a career in business for himself as co-owner of City Fire Extinguisher and Welding Products, Inc. and owner of McKinnon's Fire and Burglar Alarm Services.
Mr. McKinnon was a member of the Athens Shrine Club, Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge #22, and Friendship Presbyterian Church.
Mr. McKinnon is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Louise Keyes McKinnon; daughters Brenda McKinnon (Chuck) Horton of Watkinsville, Kay McKinnon (Lee) Woolbright, Jr. of Watkinsville, and son Wesley Marcus (Wyndee) McKinnon of Hartwell; grandson Christopher Nicholas (Lindsey) Horton of Dallas, TX; granddaughters Courtney Horton (Philip) Bernardi of Jefferson and Meredyth Keyes McKinnon of Hartwell; and great granddaughter Finley Kathryn Horton of Dallas, TX; sisters Keener Eidson of Athens and Clara Stewart of Athens; brother-in-law Jack Keyes (Mavis) of Bogart; sister-in-law Jean McKinnon of Athens and a number of nieces and nephews.
Affectionately named "G" by his grandchildren, he loved his family and friends enormously and will always be known as a kind, warm, hardworking and loving man with the utmost integrity and resilience.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 8, from 1pm until 2pm at Lord and Stephens, WEST, and a memorial service will immediately follow at 2pm at the Chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST.
