Wayne T. Smith, age 73, of Colbert, Georgia, passed away on December 17, 2023. He was born on August 17, 1950, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to the late Edwin Smith and Jean Smith.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, known for his wisdom and for being a man of few words.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Linda C. Smith of Georgia, his daughter Kiana Smith of Georgia, his son William P. Smith of Louisiana, his son Greg W. Smith, granddaughter Caitlyn Smith, grandson James G. Smith of Connecticut and his older brother Ed Smith of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father Edwin Smith, Mother Jean Smith, and sister Judith McChesney.
Wayne attended Roy C. Ketchem High School in Wappingers Falls, NY, and later served in the US Navy in the Vietnam War from 1969-1973. After his military service, he dedicated his career to serving the community as a Deputy Sheriff/Sergeant with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office in N.Y. from 1982-2005.
In his free time, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, and fixing things. He found solace and joy in pursuing these hobbies throughout his life.
Wayne was also proud to be a Freemason and through the years held many positions that he was honored to do.

Wayne was very active in Masonry from his first day as a Mason until his last day. In addition to being a Master Mason Wayne was a Member of several Masonic Orders: Scottish Rite, Royal Arch, Cryptic Council, Knight's Templar, Oriental Shrine.

Received a Masonic Ceremonial Farewell at Granvile Masonic Lodge # 55 on December 20th 2023 at 7:45 PM.
A small private family service has taken place, with a Spring service in New York to be determined. The funeral home assisting with the arrangements is Lord and Stephen's, located in Athens, GA.
Wayne T. Smith will be dearly missed by his loved ones and all who knew him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
