Walter Eugene 'Gene" Bray

Walter Eugene “Gene” Bray, 67, of Lexington, died August 18, 2022.

Known as “Uncle Nugene”, he was lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, and a son of the late Chandler Walter and Rubye Elizabeth Haynes Bray and preceded in death by brothers, Robert Chandler Bray and James Clifford Bray.

A U.S. Army veteran, Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 123 where he played bass guitar with Southern Drive Band.  He was retired from Tri County Gas and was a skilled carpenter.  Gene was a member of Winterville First Baptist Church where he also played bass guitar in the choir.  He had a great love of family and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Angie Bray; children, Jason (Arezoo) Bray of Acworth, Jon (Natalie) Poole of Hull and Candy Poole of Lexington; a grandson raised in the home, Christian Bray of Lexington; stepsons, Brad (Melissa) Bates and Chad Bates; sister, Permelia (Phillip) Digamon  of Hull; brothers, Douglas (Mary Ellen) Bray of San Jose, California, Jerry Bray of Lexington and Pete (Carol) Bray of Winterville; grandchildren, Emersyn Poole and Hudson Poole; father in law, Bobby Hayes and the late Doris Hayes; sister in law, Sue (Joey) Walker; brother in law, Mike (Susan) Meadow and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, Saturday, August 20, 2022, beginning at 11:00 AM.  Services will follow in the chapel at 1:00 PM with Rev. Phil Wages and Bryan Hawkins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winterville First Baptist Church Curb Fund.

As per the family and Gene’s request, casual dress is encouraged.
