Monroe - Walter Thomas Carpenter, Sr., 79, husband of the late Evelyn Turner Carpenter, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 21, 2008 at 3PM at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 6 to 8 at Lord & Stephens West Chapel.
Born in Wadesboro, NC, he was the son of the late Walter Thomas and Ethel Smith Carpenter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Hazel Jones. He retired from Gulf Oil as a Terminal Manager after 28 years and also served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Watkinsville, GA.
Survivors include his son Walter Thomas "Tommy" Carpenter, Jr. of Monroe and God Daughters: Tiffany G. Hancock of Fort Mill, SC and Bethany G. Deese of Mt. Holly, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Watkinsville or the American Heart Associating.
