Athens - Virginia Veal Merola, 74 of 130 Rollingwood Drive died on Thursday, October 9, 2007. She was the beloved wife of Michael E. Merola.
Mrs. Merola was the daughter of the late O.F. Veal, Jr. and the late Eugenia Breedlove Veal of Deepstep, Georgia .
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michael and their children Gina Maria and her husband Vincent Plotino, Michelle, Marsha and her husband Barry Salmon, and Maureen. Mrs. Merola is also survived by her four grandchildren Stephanie and Samantha Plotino and Christina and Michael Salmon.
Mrs. Merola was a retired educator. She lived in Parsippany , New Jersey for 25 years and taught at Morris Knolls High School . She relocated to Athens in 1983 and retired from the Clark County school district after teaching English to special education students for 15 years. She was a summa cum laude graduate of Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Beth LaRocca-Pitts of the Watkinsville Methodist Church presided. The family requests that memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House in Bogart, Georgia or the American Cancer Society.
