Mrs. Virginia Bailey Parham, 87, of Athens, Georgia passed away May 26, 2014 at the Bickford Assisted Living facility in the Buckhead community of Atlanta, GA.
Virginia was born in Hartwell, Georgia on September 1, 1927, the child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eber Bailey. Her husband, Charles Wallace Parham preceded her in death in 1999. Also deceased are a sister, Elizabeth Bailey Atkinson of Elberton, GA and a brother, Carey Bailey of Hartwell, GA.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Harold Bailey of Atlanta, Georgia plus three nieces, Ann Atkinson of Atlanta, GA; Cynthia George of Denton, TX; and Camille Patton of Toccoa, GA plus numerous cousins and nephews.
Virginia was a radio announcer in Hartwell, GA prior to marrying the love of her life, Charles Parham of Athens. After her marriage in 1960, Virginia served the Clarke County School System for over 30 years, first at Clarke County High School and then at Clarke Middle School as the head accountant. In retirement, she was a part of the volunteer group at Athens General Hospital. Always quick with a laugh and a word of encouragement, Virginia was an avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves fan. Very active, she loved to golf, exercise and travel. Most importantly, family and friends were Virginia's passion and delight.
A celebratory service honoring Virginia's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the chapel of Lord and Stephens WEST, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd, in Bogart, GA with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately after the service. Private interment will be in Evergreen Park
