Virginia Myers, 89, died on Monday, July 23, 2012.
She was born in Kentucky on November 19, 1922, to the late William Dreyer and Alma Brown, and graduated from Girls High School, in Atlanta.
Virginia was a faithful member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, having participated in the Chancel Choir, UMW, Joy Club, and many teaching capacities. She was involved with several organizations throughout her life, working with the Girl Scouts of America and as a volunteer with the Red Cross and the Cancer Auxiliary. Virginia was also a former member of the Athens Community Chorus and the Athens Choral Society. She worked the polls during election years, and served on her PTO boards.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Fred Myers; sister, Frances D. Byrum; and grandson, David A. Myers.
Survivors include her children, Maria Bowman (Joe), Karen Senkbeil (Tom), and Anthony F. Myers (Mary); grandchildren, Josh, Rachel, and Tanner Bowman, Lauren Swenson (Harris), Jeff Senkbeil, Barbara McGuire (Ken), and Scott Myers (Heidianna); and great-grandchildren, Kyra McGuire and Lindsley Swenson.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 27, at Tuckston United Methodist Church, with the Revs. James Mooneyhan and Art Graves officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Virginia's loving caregivers, Yevetta Thomas, Cynthia Hudson, Loretta Smith, Monacita Simmons, Samantha Carruth, Brianna Williams, Amanda Roberts, St. Mary's Hospice nurse, Lori McLean and the staff of the St. Mary's Hospice House.
