Athens - Virginia Barnes Guy, 78, wife of the late W. L. Guy, died July 11, 2009 at Grandview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with the Rev. Ed Walden officiating. Entombment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
A native of Newton County, she was the daughter of the late L. E. and Rubie Thompson Barnes and was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Guy Lukers, brother, Bryce Barnes, sisters, Helen Hardman and Joyce Sexton. She retired from AT&T as a telephone operator and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in law: Dana Barnes (Terri) Guy of Athens, Paul Lester (Karen) Guy of Arnoldsville; sisters: Mildred Lord and Janette Jackson; brother: Howard Lee Barnes: grandchildren: Danielle Guy, Emmie Guy, Christopher Guy, Jeremiah Lukers and his wife Melinda, William Lukers; great grandsons: Jackson Lukers and Edan Lukers as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, 1220 B. East Joppa Road, Suite 332, Baltimore, MD 21286 or the Sclerodoma Foundation, Attn: Donations, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923
