Virginia White Galloway

Virginia White Galloway passed away on Dec, 18 at the age of 95. Virginia was a resident of Marchbanks Assisted Living and Memory Care in Anderson, SC.  She had been a resident there since September and had previously been a resident of The Clary Care Center in Toccoa, GA.  Virginia lived in Athens, GA from 1970 until she moved to Toccoa.  A native of Hartford in Geneva County Alabama, she was the daughter of Fred Lenton and Jewel Crook White. She is preceded in death by her husband Frasier T. Galloway. They had been married 66 years at the time of his death in 2011. Virginia received a nursing degree from South Highland Infirmary School of Nursing in Birmingham, AL. Frasier was a state level manager with the US Department of Agriculture and accepted positions in several states prior to settling in Athens. During her career, Virginia served as a Registered Nurse and a dedicated homemaker for her family in each of these states. While living in North Carolina Virginia taught Nursing Surgical Arts at Duke University. Once settled in the Athens area, she became an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church and the Gideons International Women’s Auxiliary.

In adherence to COVID-19 guidelines there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a private family memorial during Virginia’s interment next to her husband at Evergreen Cemetery in Athens, GA. Lord and Stephens East Funeral Home is coordinating arrangements.

She is survived by daughters Teresa Galloway Bondurant and husband John of Flomaton, AL, Vaneta Galloway Kirsch and husband Paul of Lavonia, GA, son, Fred Houston Galloway and wife Cathy of Brookline, NH, four Grandsons, Dietrich and Jason Bondurant of Flomaton, AL, Gavin Galloway of Tokyo, Japan and Maxwell Galloway of Brookline, NH, two great-grandchildren, Summer Brooke Bondurant of Semmes, AL, and Landon Bondurant of Chumuckla, FL.  She is also survived by two sisters; Gwendolyn Yance of Marco Island, FL and Marlene Horne of Staunton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Green Acres Baptist Church of Athens, GA or The Gideons International.
