Winterville - Virgil E. Phillips, 65, husband of the late Carolyn Phillips, died January 28, 2006.
A life long resident of Winterville, GA, he was the son of the late Odell and Ellie Lee Phillips, Sr. He retired from CSX Railroad as a Yard Master after 30 years. He is preceded in death by his brother, Odell Phillips, Jr. and sisters, Rachel Baker and Annie Lou Gillespie.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Lord & Stephens, EAST. Rev. Howard Conine will officiate. Interment will be in Winterville Cemetery.
Athens Clarke County Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Stewart, Johnny White, David Wade and Donald Chandler.
Survivors include his son, William Howard Phillips and wife Pam of Winterville; daughter Trudy Brady and husband Edward of Watkinsville; brother Vernon Phillips of Athens; five grandchildren, Kasey Phillips, Karley Phillips, Whitney Brady, Brandi Brady, and Chase Brady.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Winterville Cemetery Fund.
