It is with great sadness that the death of Vicky Vaughn Cain, age 67, is announced. Vicky passed away on July 2, 2013 due to complications of a stroke. Born August 11, 1945, she was the youngest of three children of Jesse Bryant and Bessie Melton Vaughn of Durant, Mississippi.
Vicky was born and raised in Durant, Mississippi. It is there that she met and married her high school sweetheart, Bob Cain. Vicky and Bob began their lives together as students at Holmes Junior College and later moved to Oxford, Mississippi to attend Ole Miss. After college, Bob and Vicky moved numerous times as Bob climbed the corporate ladder. In 1982 they moved to Norcross, GA and established roots as residents of Georgia.
Vicky was an active member of First United Methodist Church Athens. One of her greatest joys was to sing in the choir. Vicky's strong faith was not only evident by her words but most evident by her walk. Vicky and Bob were charter members of Simpsonwood United Methodist Church in Norcross Georgia.
In 1983 Vicky obtained her Georgia Real Estate License and began her career with Royer Realty in Norcross. After several years with Royer, Vicky was proud to join Re/Max Realty Northeast in Norcross. She joined Re/Max Associates-Athens in 1997. Vicky assisted hundreds of families as a REALTOR in her 29 years of Real Estate.
Vicky earned The Phoenix Award in metro Atlanta (1993) and the Gold Phoenix Award (2003) in Athens, was a Life Member of the Athens Area Association Million Dollar Club, and earned her Broker's license as well as many other professional designations. In 2005 she was honored as Realtor of the Year. While busy in the Real Estate profession, Vicky continued to serve and give as a member of the Women's Council of Realtors, Chairperson of Power of the Purse for United Way and active in many causes to benefit others in need.
While extremely proud of her professional accomplishments, Vicky was most proud of her family. She loved her husband, Bob, with all her heart. Their love story started as a high school friendship, resulted in a marriage of 50 years with a lifetime of memories. As many have commented in the last days and weeks, the most beautiful chapter played out before our eyes in the last two years as Bob was by her side every day taking care of the love of his life. His dedication was a true testimony and display of unconditional love.
Vicky and Bob have four children, Linda, Lori, Jeff and Mike. She loved them all with the heart of a mother and wife, so often forgoing her needs to attend to theirs. Vicky was proud of her children, but her greatest title in life was, GRAM. She would love to spend time with and do anything for her 10 grandchildren. Whether it was attending a church play or choir concert, to baseball, softball, football or basketball games, GRAM was there. She could cheer with the best of them, offer a comforting hug when necessary or just simply listen when you needed to talk. She loved to be GRAM and her grandchildren certainly loved her.
Vicky was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Vaughn of Bedford, Texas.
Vicky is survived by her loving husband Bob, and children and their spouses, Linda and Bill Boyd of Dacula,GA, Lori and Tandy Price of Bogart, GA, Jeff Cain of Pine Mountain, GA, and Mike and Suzanne Cain of Bishop, GA.
