Watkinsville, GA - Vernon Nesbitte Downs, 84, died April 24, 2007.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, he was a son of the late Irby and Mabel O'Dillon Downs and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Downs, Brice Downs and Milton Downs. He was a farmer and a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Downs was the oldest living member of Johnson United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 27, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Johnson United Methodist Church, with Revs. Odell Elrod and Jeff Wilkes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae Downs; sisters-in-law, Sara J. Downs and Sara M. Downs, both of Watkinsville; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Oconee Chapel Funeral Directors, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
