Watkinsville, GA - Tom Watson (Papa) Dooley, 85, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 in St. Mary's Hospital.
Born and raised in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Melvin D. and Susie S. C. Stewart Dooley. Mr. Dooley served three years in the U.S. Army, 45 Infantry Division during World War II in Germany and the European Operation. He was wounded once and his feet were frozen. He is the holder of the Purple Heart and three Battle Stars. He had a deep and abiding love for his country. He retired from Independent Life Insurance Company at the age of 62. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Hamilton Dooley, Hilmon Lee Dooley, Robert Louis Dooley and an infant sister, Letha Sue Dooley.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST. Rev. Carlos Sibley will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Frances Virginia (Jenny) Dooley; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia (Jerrie) and Lane Teet of Colbert, Teresa J. and Mike Fitzpatrick of Watkinsville; granddaughter and husband, Sharon and David Savage; grandson and wife, Benjamin Tom and Katie Fitzpatrick; great-grandson, Mason Savage; sister, Margaret Boswell of Athens and brother Melvin Dooley, Jr. of Carterville.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
