Timothy Edward Lally

Timothy Edward Lally, 61, of Bishop, Georgia died October 7, 2021, after a long battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra Pittman Lally; his children, Lacy Elizabeth Lally and James Vincent Lally; his mother, Elizabeth Reilly Lally; sisters, Tina McDonald, Teri Blackmon, and Re O’Rourke; Sister-in-law Brenda Elwell (Kevin) and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father, Bernard Vincent Lally.

Tim was a 1977 graduate of Clarke Central High School where he played football and baseball.  He was voted “Answer to a Maiden’s Prayer” as a senior superlative.  He played baseball at Middle Georgia College before starting a lifelong career with the CSX Railroad.  In his 37 years with the railroad, Tim never missed a day of work due to sickness. He had a driving work ethic which always compelled him to go above and beyond; never stopping until the job was done right!

No matter where Tim was or what he was doing, he never met a stranger.  He took the time to talk to people from all walks of life. He especially enjoyed meeting and conversing with the patients and medical staff at The University Cancer and Blood Center. He could always add a little laughter and good will wherever he went.  His charisma and quick wit drew people into his life resulting in many life long cherished friendships.

If given the choice, Tim always chose being outdoors.  He derived much satisfaction from maintaining an impeccable lawn and volunteering at the Lane Creek Golf Course.  His greatest sense of pride and joy however was being the dad to his daughter and son.  He threw the parenting books out the window and chose instead to parent in his own way, proving that in the end, it’s all about love.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 10 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel. Funeral mass on Monday, October 11 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Athens.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The University Cancer & Blood Center, Athens, Georgia.
