Thomas Edward Wood

Watkinsville, GA - Thomas Edward Wood, 78, died April 28, 2012.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Robert Jewell and Cleo Elisabeth Wood and preceded in death by brothers, Robert, James and Alvin.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired owner of Quality Enterprises. Mr. Wood was a longtime member of Mars Hill Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday school teacher and worked with the Boy Scouts. He served on the Mission Committee of Appalachee Baptist Association under the direction of Rev. Claude Healan, and was instrumental in planting Fellowship Baptist Church where he and his family were charter members. He has continued to dedicate his life to serving in all areas of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Rev. Wilburn Hill officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Wood; children, Charles Thomas Wood (Tammy) of Winder, Kathy Jo Gunter of North High Shoals and Michael Edward Wood (Denise) of Murrayville; sisters, Frances Hill and Edna Brown (Moe) of Commerce, Deaner Bolton (Emory) of Houschton, Betty Taylor of Douglas and Judy Prickett (Jeff) of Commerce; grandchildren, Jennifer Cox (Timmy), Amanda Gunter, Elizabeth Gunter, Rebekah Gunter, Thomas Wood (Alicia) and Shawn Wood; great grandchildren, Garrett Thompson, Sarah Cox, Trevor Cox, Ethan Wood, Chelsea Dean and Sophie Wood and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Contingency Fund of Fellowship Baptist Church, American Cancer Society or the Claude Healan Memorial Fund, c/o Mars Hill Baptist Church.
