Born in Athens, he was the son of Sally Barbara Jones and the late Joe Robert Shelton.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Angela Denise Shelton; eleven children, Amy, Aressa, Renee, Melissa, TW, Justin, Chasity, Tyler, Tiffany, Dylan and Devin Shelton; two sisters, Ann Gaddis and Kay Bridges; one brother, Lamar Shelton; and 21 grandchildren.
