Ted Proffer

Ted Proffer, 80, of Athens, died June 17, 2015.
Born in Chaffee, Missouri, he was the son of the late Clifford and Leola Marie Summers Proffer and preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Proffer in 1994. Ted served in the United States Navy from 1951 - 1974, retiring as Lt. Commander. His tours included active duty in Vietnam and Iran. Following his military service he retired as Director of Fiscal Affairs at the UGA College of Agriculture after 21 years. He was a longtime member of the Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Proffer of Athens; sons, Ted Proffer, Jr. and his wife, Darla Sperry Proffer of Lawrence, Michigan and Cliff Proffer and his wife Phoebe Collins Proffer of Winterville; 7 grandchildren, Angela Proffer Laube, Clint Proffer, Kayla Proffer, Kelle Proffer Kelsey, Autumn Proffer Kelly, Joel Proffer and Brandi Proffer Boedecker; great grandchildren, Kilian and Ireland Kelly and Zen, Gavin and Kloee Kelsey and Brayden and Garrett Laube; great great granddaughter, Christina Kelsey.
Funeral services will be Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friend at the funeral home Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House.
