Syble Smith, 87, died Sunday, February 9, 2014. A lifetime resident of Oglethorpe County, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Mathews and Julia Daniel Mathews and the widow of James P. Smith, Jr. She was a member of Glade Baptist Church and will be remembered for her faithful church attendance and her love of music. She was first a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her membership in the Women's Club, Little Ole Biddy's Club and the Sunshine Club. She cherished her family and friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Glade Baptist Church with Rev. Derek Paul officiating. Burial will follow at the Glade Cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Peggy (Boyd) Cook of Athens, Judy (Bill) Sorenson of Omaha, Nebraska, Patricia (the late John) Maxey of Dixon, IL; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Glade Baptist Church, c/o Martha Carol Reynolds, 646 Ruffs Road, Carlton, GA 30627.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 10, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lord & Stephens Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
