Susan Carol Haywood

Susan Carol Haywood passed away January 12, 2016 due to heart failure. She was born in Athens, GA on February 26, 1969. Susan is survived by her son Jason Wren Pledger Jr.; parents Jane C. Houston and E. Lamar Houston, Gerald D. Haywood and Connie Haywood; sister Denise Haywood McWhorter (Thad); step sister, Nicole Stanley (Jim), and nieces and nephews.
Susan's health had declined over the last several years but the heart that failed her never failed her family and never will. She fully loved her family, long lazy days on the lake, celebrating birthdays, holidays and sharing huge family meals with her family and extended family of friends. She was a stalwart citizen of the Bulldog Nation and loved the Dawgs, but loved one dog the most, her closest companion Sam.
Susan was an Athens girl through and through. Her young life was shaped in the Athens First Baptist Church youth groups and choirs. She graduated from Cedar Shoals High School in 1988 where she was a champion swimmer and diver. Friends from those years lasted through all her years and her loss is balanced only by what she gave of herself to others.
Funeral services will be at Athens First Baptist Church on Friday, January 15 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 14 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, EAST.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Athens First Baptist Church Youth Program.
