Sue Brooks (Brooks) Moore

March 28, 1932 — May 14, 2017

SUE B. MOORE, age 85, passed away May 14, 2017. Longtime resident of both Oglethorpe and Hart counties, she was preceded in death by her parents, Will T. Brooks and Mamie L. Edwards Brooks, and an older brother, Guy E. Brooks. Mrs. Moore was also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles F. Bentley, 1957, and a second husband, Leroy T. Moore, 1983. She is survived by three daughters, Dianne Bentley, Pasadena, CA; Patricia B. Wilkins (Steve), Colbert, GA; and Wanda M. Haler (Mike), Lexington, GA. She loved her family, and was known as Big Mama" by her five surviving grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Moore is also survived by two nephews.
Mrs. Moore was born March 28, 1932 in Oglethorpe County, GA. She attended the public schools of Oglethorpe County, graduating from the Arnoldsville School in 1950, the last term of 11 years. Sue was captain of her basketball team during her high school years, a prime sport in the day. Mrs. Moore liked studying business, but decided that having a job was more important and obtained her first job at the Ford Motor Company in Crawford, GA.
Ms. Sue loved manicuring her yard, as she deemed it her "therapy". During holiday seasons and for special occasions, she helped with the Athens Florist flower shop. The shop was always glad to have her creativity in putting together floral arrangements for many people. While residing in Crawford, GA, she owned and operated the Moore's 10 Cent Store for 14+ years. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Crawford Baptist Church. Later, she became a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Union Point, GA and was also a member of the Oglethorpe County Booster Club for many years.
As a resident of Hartwell, GA, Sue B. Moore was an active member of Miltown Baptist Church. Here she served in several roles: Coordinator for the Senior Group, organizing trips for the senior members; Sunday School Treasurer for Women's Sunday school class; Host Committee chair; choir member; and Pulpit Committee member. Mrs. Moore traveled across the United States several times, visiting many points of interest. She was also a member of a Senior Citizens Travel Group, giving her an opportunity to take cruises, pay tribute to local venues, and visit historical and monumental sites throughout the country.
Mrs. Moore will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother whose greatest passion was helping others. While taking many friends to appointments and assisting them when needed, she stated that "helping others" made her happy.
At the request of Mrs. Sue Moore, there will be no visitation rights. Funeral services will be held at the Clarke Cemetery, Lexington, GA on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Ken Brewer will officiate. If desired, in lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, GA through the website.
