Athens - Sue Anne Stowe Jones, 69, of Athens, died July 7, 2011. She was born in Commerce, the oldest daughter of James Edwin and Annie Ruth Clements Stowe.
She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters of Library Education from the University of Georgia. She taught first grade at Colbert Elementary School for 34 years. Her love of children and passion for teaching kept her in the classroom rather than ever serving as a librarian.
She was a member of Happy Squares Square Dancing Club, a member of Madison County Retired Educators Association, a member of the Red and Ready Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and an active member and deacon at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a member of Golden Glows and the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class.
She was an active member of the Auxiliary at ARMC, having served as recording secretary, bake sale chair, scrapbook chairman, membership chair, and hospitality chair. She also served on the Board of Management of the Council on Auxiliaries/Volunteers as East Central District Director and also as Awards chair.
Anne leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Bill; her daughter, Stephanie, of Milledgeville; her son, Andy and his wife Becca and her granddaughter, Nadia, of Augusta; her sister, Hazel and brother-in-law, Berry Collier, of Rochelle; her brother, Jim and sister-in-law, Janice Stowe, of Athens; her brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Cathy, of Toccoa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 9, in the Milledge Avenue Baptist Church Gathering Room from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the church's Sanctuary at 2 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be at Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa at 4:30 p.m.
