Hulla Sue Carter Griffiths, 83, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, died on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Born in Jackson County to the late Clarice Ernest Perry and Lillian Alma Davis Perry, Sue lived her entire life in the Athens area. As an adult, she was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church. She loved to sew, read, garden, and sing, and was known by many names: Nana to her grandchildren and Mama Sue to all her “adopted children.”
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Brantley Allen Carter, Jr., and her niece, Deborah Ann McCune.
Sue is survived by her 4 children: Rodney (Jennifer) Carter, Susan Williford, Rhonda (Steve) Bray, and Sharon (Brad) Bryan; sister Ann McCune and brother Bud (Mary) Perry; seven grandchildren: Lacy Carter, Rhett Carter, Jared (Kirstie) Williford, Jessica Williford, Stephen Bray, Andrew Bray, and Taylor Bryan; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 14, at Lord and Stephens, East Chapel at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Ivey officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until service time.
