Stephen (STEF-en) Robert Castile, 51, of Athens, GA died on February 7th, 2024. The son of Gerry Greenwood and Robb Castile of Chicago, Illinois, Stephen was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dewey Greenwood, and is survived by his three sons Matteo Bell-Castile, Jacob Bell-Castile, and Michael Niedzwiecki-Castile, his fiancée, Ashley Glenn, his brother, Marc Castile, his parents, and grandmother, Liz Greenwood.
A beloved educator, mentor, and enthusiast of life, Stephen brought a passionate spirit and a commitment to education to every aspect of his life.
He moved to Athens to pursue his studies in English Education, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Georgia. For over 26 years, Stephen devoted himself to the noble profession of education, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students. His impact extended far beyond the classroom, shaping their character and instilling in them a love for learning that would last a lifetime.
Beyond his professional life, Stephen was a man of many passions. A fervent supporter of Chicago sports, particularly the Cubs, he wore his loyalty like a badge of honor. His love for Marvel, DC, and Star Wars showcased his imaginative spirit. Stephen's enjoyment of music was exemplified by the memories created with his boys at the many concerts they attended together.
His love for food and naps was unmatched, and he departed this world doing what he loved, sleeping. His affinity for Jackson County water, a unique and cherished luxury, demonstrated his appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Central to Stephen's heart were his three boys, whom he loved unconditionally. His immeasurable pride in their accomplishments was evident to all who knew him. A loyal friend with a vast network of loved ones and chosen family, Stephen's impact on the community was profound.
As we say goodbye to Stephen Castile, let us celebrate a life lived with passion, purpose, and an enduring commitment to the betterment of others. May his memory inspire us to approach life with the same zeal and dedication that he exemplified. Rest in peace, dear friend, mentor, and father figure. You will be deeply missed.
