Shirley Lois Hunt

Shirley Lois Hunt, age 80, died in the loving presence of her family and her sweet dog, Abbie, on January 7, 2021. She was able to be at her home after courageously battling several health issues.

Shirley was born on July 7, 1940, in Breathitt County, Kentucky.  After living in Cincinnati, Ohio and Powder Springs, Georgia, she settled in Athens where she happily lived the past twenty years close to her daughter and several grandchildren. Shirley was active in her beloved Covenant Presbyterian Church and enjoyed her spirited neighborhood full of wonderful friends.  Her positivity and love of life impacted everyone she knew. She is survived by her children Becky and Millard Griffin of Morganton, and Heidi and Kent Wolfe of Watkinsville.

Shirley’s main joy in life was her grandchildren- Jacob, Elizabeth, Allison, Jonathan, Ashley, Jessica, Madison, and Joe.  She attended more concerts and sporting events than can be counted!  Her lively family dinners and homemade biscuits will be sorely missed and remembered fondly. Her great grandson, Brooks, was such a light in her life during her difficult final months.

Many thanks to her precious friends and extended family for all the support during a most difficult time.  We are comforted that our sweet Shirley is finally at peace and are forever grateful for the hospice care that we received.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be made to your local hospice care unit. A celebration of life will take place at a future time.
